About the Summit

The maiden Southeast Summit on Economy and Security (SESES) taking place in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria on September 28–29, 2023, will have political, religious, youth, business, civil society, diplomatic, military, community and town union stakeholders from Nigeria’s Southeast region coming together to address the pervasive and unprecedented insecurity in the zone with devastating consequences on the lives of people.

There is widespread concern regarding this level of loss of lives and property in the region, unknown since the Nigerian Civil War. Thus, the five Governors of the Southeast initiated this Summit under the aegis of the Southeast Governors Forum supported by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide to address the issues affecting the peace, security and development of the South East and proffer practical, actionable solutions.

The theme of the maiden edition, “South East Beyond 2023: Time for a Reset”, will provide a guiding framework for discussions – defining specific problems, projects to address them, and roles of the various stakeholders, including the Federal Government, in solving the problems presented.

The invitation-only event, with delegates drawn from all the relevant stakeholders, offers a unique opportunity for all levels of leadership and stakeholders across the five South East states, irrespective of political affiliations, to confer and agree on the way forward, as well as the terms of collaboration to reset the South East zone.
